Babette Gallard is an English writer and podcaster who came to South Africa six years ago and stayed. Having travelled widely, she was struck by the depth of local initiative she encountered here, and by the way ordinary people step forward to solve problems when systems fall short.

Terry Shakinovsky is a journalist and former activist who, like many South Africans, has felt disillusioned by the country’s trajectory. What sustains her now are the people who continue to work, often quietly and against the odds, for meaningful transformation.
